The rear garden of an historic residence in the Sunset Hill neighborhood of Kansas City required a complete redesign when the owner planned construction of a new workshop. The heart of the new garden is centered on an existing quartet of linden trees, with a continuous wood deck that connects the house and workshop. A low limestone wall curves to form the base of the workshop in concert with the historic walls throughout the property. Other existing stone and brick materials are harvested and reused in simplified, contemporary interpretations. The result is a distinctive space suited for summer parties and quiet solitude alike.
